Saturday brought with it a second toy to my new gun collection. Thanks to my wonderful boyfriend Travis (we might have been dating for six months but there’s still no title so thanks to his buddy Jason, I go around calling Travis my “friend” – usually Marlee and I just use it in text) and his best friend Dustin, I now own the Walther P22, along with a Fobus holster and red dot scope.

Welcome to the Gun Show
This morning I headed out to my first gun show. With my new hunting hobby and the fact that I’ve been living alone for the past four years, I’ve been wanting to get a gun for a long time now. I also should be receiving my South Carolina CWP & Utah CFP in the next few months. When we walked in, the place was wall to walk of people and guns. I was so out of my element. Thanks to my CWP training I’ve gotten to know a Glock 19 9mm but other than that, I’ve only shot a 20 gauge shotgun recently. I tagged along behind the boys through the first few booths while they looked at shotguns & rifles until I saw it, the wildberry Walther P22. I’ve been looking at this gun for the past month but of course I found it cheaper online, and I also haven’t shot it yet. Now I was more interested in picking up a few guns. We talked to the guys at ATP Gun Shop (which is where we’ll be going to shoot and probably buy my gun at) and I looked at my beloved Glock. Next I looked at a Ruger SR22 which I started to like the feel of better than the Walther. We found the Ruger at the Upstate Armory booth for $300 which was a great price, but I haven’t shot the Ruger yet so I don’t know if I truly like it. They also had great deals on the Walther (but no pink) and Glock. Man I wanted to buy something from there pronto! But this is a big purchase (especially since shotgun & bow are next on my list) of something I don’t know much about so I really need to be careful about my decision. So what do you think: Glock 19 9mm, Ruger SR22, or Walther P22?
CWP Training
I might be almost 3 years late but I finally took the CWP training class. All by myself too, although it took a few words of encouragement from my mentor on the way there! Aren’t you proud? Sidenote: If you know me at all, you know that I don’t do anything by myself, especially something as out of my element as this. But I guess I’m seeing a change in myself. Just the other week I took a hunting education course and came into the same range to take my exam. Lucky for me, I met the range’s CWP instructor at that time who invited my friends and I to hunt at his family’s land in Florence. So I was definitely at ease when I pulled up next to Dale at Trader World. First question off the bat, what kind of gun did you bring to shoot? Well I haven’t gone to look at guns yet so I’ve got to rent one. So Dale let me borrow one of his. I quickly eliminated the revolver (I think the song/game Russian Roulette freaks me out) but choosing between a 9mm and 40 was a tough decision. I hated the 9mm I was used to, I knew nothing about a 40, and I’ve only ever shot a 45 (about 10 years ago) which I jammed. But 9mm it is, I guess. Once everyone got into class, we learned we had a lively bunch and since Dale was a smoker we’d have lots of breaks. Throughout the morning we got through SC law while poking jokes at my twitter obsession. Then my second favorite part, a group test! After lunch, we learned Utah law. And here’s your question… Why Utah? Are you planning on going there soon? South Carolina doesn’t recognize Georgia’s permit so Georgia won’t reciprocate with South Carolina therefore I can get a Utah permit which gives me Georgia along with 33 other states. So why not spend a few more dollars for 15 minutes instead of taking a four hour class. After fingerprinting it was onto target practice. And I was nervous again, but this mentor I spoke of earlier had so much faith in me (awwwww). But I donned the pink safety gear and did work on my target (see previous post). Moral of the story: don’t piss me off. In about two weeks I’ll be packing heat, carrying it around Georgia starting in October, and South Carolina in November.
