I might be almost 3 years late but I finally took the CWP training class. All by myself too, although it took a few words of encouragement from my mentor on the way there! Aren’t you proud? Sidenote: If you know me at all, you know that I don’t do anything by myself, especially something as out of my element as this. But I guess I’m seeing a change in myself. Just the other week I took a hunting education course and came into the same range to take my exam. Lucky for me, I met the range’s CWP instructor at that time who invited my friends and I to hunt at his family’s land in Florence. So I was definitely at ease when I pulled up next to Dale at Trader World. First question off the bat, what kind of gun did you bring to shoot? Well I haven’t gone to look at guns yet so I’ve got to rent one. So Dale let me borrow one of his. I quickly eliminated the revolver (I think the song/game Russian Roulette freaks me out) but choosing between a 9mm and 40 was a tough decision. I hated the 9mm I was used to, I knew nothing about a 40, and I’ve only ever shot a 45 (about 10 years ago) which I jammed. But 9mm it is, I guess. Once everyone got into class, we learned we had a lively bunch and since Dale was a smoker we’d have lots of breaks. Throughout the morning we got through SC law while poking jokes at my twitter obsession. Then my second favorite part, a group test! After lunch, we learned Utah law. And here’s your question… Why Utah? Are you planning on going there soon? South Carolina doesn’t recognize Georgia’s permit so Georgia won’t reciprocate with South Carolina therefore I can get a Utah permit which gives me Georgia along with 33 other states. So why not spend a few more dollars for 15 minutes instead of taking a four hour class. After fingerprinting it was onto target practice. And I was nervous again, but this mentor I spoke of earlier had so much faith in me (awwwww). But I donned the pink safety gear and did work on my target (see previous post). Moral of the story: don’t piss me off. In about two weeks I’ll be packing heat, carrying it around Georgia starting in October, and South Carolina in November.
